1. What is the central  idea  of  your   concentration?

The central idea of my concentration is emotion.

2. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images please indicate the image numbers.

On my first slide, I wanted to show the emotion of joy and happiness by using contrast of tone and lines to help focus the viewers’ attention on the girl in front.  On my second slide, I wanted to express a more solemn mood by using close cropping. On slide three, I stepped back to see if I could capture a collective mood. Tilting the image added to the emotional feel, as did the juxtaposition of the red and greens.

I then discovered Cindy Sherman’s early work dealing with the stereotypes of women. Interested in how she expressed feelings through facial expressions and body language, I started to focus on what fashion models emotion were feeling during the photo shoot, instead of focusing on the clothes the model is wearing. Slide four is a typical model expression. Slide five shows the inner thoughts of the model, while her body is being used to sell clothes. Slide six is my tribute to Cindy Sherman. The feelings conveyed are very similar to several of her works. In slide nine, I took the picture at a different angle to add a dramatic effect and emphasize how body language alters emotion.
