What You Will Learn In Art 2/D - 3/D |
|
This is an important class for many reasons not the least of which is that it fulfills the state Fine Arts requirement for graduation. It is also a required class for all the other Art classes in the Art Department. If you want to take any other Art class you need to pass this class first. Having passed this class, you can focus on the skills within the subject of the class you sign up for such as Drawing, Painting, Clay, Photography, Computer Graphics. Beyond that it will also enrich your life. You will be learning how to see more than you ever thought possible. By the time this class is over you should never be board again. Human beings have two basic ways of seeing. One we will call looking and one we will call seeing. When we look at things we are using our eyes to primarily identify what things are in our environment. We are categorizing them and referring to our memory bank ( rather than the particular thing ) to determine their qualities and what we should do. Seeing on the other hand is visually experiencing the object and all its uniqueness. This is a very important tool in problem solving as it takes nothing for granted. You will learn to look for the possibilities in everything you do in this class, including the possibilities of things that could make you happy. You will be learning how to see and use the Elements and Principles of Art. These are the tools and concepts that go into making a work of Art. We will be highlighting each one of these in at least one work of Art over the semester. You will learn how to be creative, and make Art that is unique to you and express, in a work of Art, your ideas, feelings, and what you see in the world. All of these things will help you to develop your nonlinear problem solving skills which will help you to solve Art and Non Art problems you face in your everyday life. And the best part of all..... you get to have fun making Art!
